Thurrock too fast for sluggish Rochford
9:57am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
Thurrock 57, Rochford 7 RUGBY I(LONDON 1NORTH): THURROCK returned to league action after an enforced two week break and they did it in style in front of a good crowd bolstered by a pre match vice presidents’ lunch crowd who were not put off by the wet start.
The lay-off meant Thurrock welcomed back captain Darryl Worster to the fray.
It was Thurrock talisman Mike Stanley who made a fantastic break to set up the first points.
And Sam Boshell scored in the corner.
Thurrock took complete control of the remainder of the first half with tries from Ben Stanley, Bradleigh Retigan and Frankie Neale, who failed to convert any of tries.
All the tries were scored wide out against a very strong breeze, giving the home side a 20 point advantage and a bonus point.
The second period was much the same as the first – plenty of spirit shown by the visitors, with very little to show. Early tries from Stanley and Darryl Worster – both converted by Frankie Neale – put Thurrock in an unassailable lead.
Rochford did manage to create a score when their captain, Stewart scored, and then Ashton converted off the crossbar.
The points came first off the forwards’ hard work. Hooker Reece Durrance scored his first try for the club, then Nathan Farrell and Earl Gorman both went over to put the icing on the cake.
Neale added two more conversions to complete the scoring.
This was a great all round performance with the back row of Timson, Russo and Rettigan all in outstanding form as a unit.
