Snow wipes out non-league
11:11am Monday 6th February 2012
NON-LEAGUE: DESPITE the freezing conditions forcing the abandonment of the vast majority of non-league games over the weekend there was some action further down the football pyramid.
All 32 scheduled Ryman League fixtures were called off, including the seven featuring our south Essex sides, writes James Colasanti.
And Thurrock’s match with Farnborough in the Blue Square Bet South did not happen after Ship Lane failed a pitch inspection on Saturday morning.
All eight Essex Senior League games went down too, and that meant no football for our four featured sides; a sensible early decision to call-off the hotly-anticipated Basildon United versus Bowers & Pitsea derby was made early on Friday evening.
But seven games got underway in the ProKit UK Essex Olympian Football League, although only six were finished after Frenford Senior Reserves’ home game with Upminster Reserves in reserve division one was abandoned after 56 mins due to “deteriorating conditions”.
There was a 10-0 home win for Stambridge United over Writtle in division three, and regular Echo sport match report contributor Brian Jeeves was among those who went along to the Stambridge Memorial Ground, near Rochford, to watch the action.
In division two, Billericay-based Forest Glade went down 4-2 at home to Burnham Ramblers Reserves.
And in the Olympian's Premier league, Southend-based White Ensign lost 2-1 at home to Frenford Senior.
In reserve division two, there was a 2-2 draw between Chelmsfordians and Galleywood reserves, and a 4-1 home win for Runwell Hospital Reserves against their Herongate Athletic counterparts.
And in reserve division three, Chingford Athletic Reserves went down 2-1 at home to Stambridge United Reserves.
