BOXING: A YOUNG fighter from South Ockendon has become the London Under 34kg champion.

Sid Driscoll, 13, a pupil at the Ockendon Academy, is following in the boxing footsteps of his father, former champion Mick Driscoll and older brother Charlie Driscoll, 18, and on Sunday Sid fought his way to the London title after a titanic battle with the talented Daniel O’Donnell from Hooks ABC.

Sid beat O’Donnell with a 12-4 decision at Feltham.

The last few weeks have been busy for Sid who just two weeks ago took on two fights in one day for the North East Division.

Sid beat Paul Claydon from Romford first and then went on to defeat Hornchurch’s Luke Waits.

This set up the final of the NE Division on Saturday against Repton’s Levi Lee.

Lee and Driscoll took to the ring at Feltham and – in one of the best fights seen for many months – Driscoll was the winner by the score of 14-9.

This set up the Thurrock youngster for his London Championshipbout the next day in which he showed his class and earned the title Under 34kg title.
