Challenge match tonight (Friday) for Lakeside Hammers speedway stars

11:43am Friday 19th March 2010

Lakeside Hammers riders are ready to take on local rivals, the Ipswich Witches, in the opening match of the new season at their Arena-Essex Raceway this evening (Friday March 19).

The Hammers riders are looking forward to getting the new season underway.

Local rivals, the Ipswich Witches, have made several changes to their line-up this year with Claus Vissing and Oliver Allen joining them. Vissing rode for Peterborough in 2009 and Allen with Coventry. Linus Sundstrom from Rye House shares a doubling up role with Carl Wilkinson from Scunthorpe. Ritchie Hawkins also comes in as their Official No.8. Remaining in their side from last season are former GP rider Scott Nicholls, their captain Daniel King plus Poles Robert Miskowiak and Dawid Stachyra.

However, the Hammers Management have today heard that the two Poles will not be at the meeting as it is reported on the Official Ipswich website that they have not been given start permission by the Polish authorities to ride in England until next week. They are bringing in their No.8 Hawkins to cover for Stachyra and will be utilising the ’Rider Replacement’ facility for Miskowiak. As Miskowiak is second in their averages they will be able to give any of their riders an additional ride.

The Hammers will see Stuart Robson up in the top five for the first time since he joined the Club last season. The Hammers will be using Paul Hurry and their new signing, Daniel Davidsson, at reserve.

The action gets underway at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday at 7.45pm with the parade of riders, with the first heat scheduled to start at 8pm.
