ATHLETICS: The Essex team, with a sprinkling of competitors from Southend Basildon and Thurrock, was in fine form at the indoor inter counties competition at Lee Valley.
With four sections competing for honours, men’ s under-17, senior men, women’s under-17 and senior women, Essex were triumphant in all categories.
The match result saw Essex win the overall men’s competition on 146 points from Herts (124) and Middlesex (106).
Women’s winning overall total for Essex was 154, from Herts (133) and Middlesex (48).
The men’s line-ups, managed by Southend AC team boss Keith Palmer, had a strong contingent of local athletes.
Southend AC - Jake King (A): Senior men 60 metres, 7.00secs, 2nd (pb); 200, 22.31, 1st (pb). James McLean (A): Senior men 60 hurdles, 8.86, 1st (pb).David Smale (B): Senior men 800, 1:59.46, 1st. Aaron Kaye (A): Senior men’s pole vault, 4.60 metres, 1st (pb). Kevin Hughes (B): Senior men pole vault, 4.20, 1st. Tom Watts (B): Men’s under-17 200, 25.07, 3rd; shot 9.93, 2nd.
Basildon AC - Ryan O’Sullivan (A): Men’s under-17, 60, 7.32, 3rd; Rob Wood (A): Men’s under-17 pole Vault,3.80, 2nd; Mitchell Etheridge (B): Men’s Under-17 pole vault, 3.55, 1st.
Thurrock Harriers - Emmanuel Stephens (B): Senior Men 60, 7.00, 1st; Dan George (A): Senior Men, high jump, 1.95, 1st; Michael Bartlett (B): Senior men, high jump, 1.80, 2nd. Darryl Worbey (A): Men’s Under-17, 800, 2:03.68, 2nd.
