Forum gets grant to help the young

8:00am Saturday 4th February 2012

A COMMUNITY group has been given a cash boost of £50,000 to continue its work with youngsters in Aveley.

The Aveley Village Community Forum will be using its two-year grant from the Tudor Trust to enable part-time youth workers to work full-time to run more specialist training programmes.

Alan Field, chairman of the forum, said: “The trust has given us a great opportunity to work with older young people, especially those who have left school and have not taken up any further education or get a job.

“Our two youth workers will be able to guide and support our young people and help them to make the most of their lives.

“Our current youth centre activities will continue, but our workers will be able to get out and about during the day, as well as running programmes.

“It is wonderful to finally be able to do something to help change young peoples’ lives.”

The first programme the forum will run is a free ten-week training programme for ten youngsters developing work skills, completing work in the community, as well as other activities to help them back into training or a job.
