Academy's £15million plan is submitted

8:00am Saturday 4th February 2012

PLANS for the new £15million Ormiston Park Academy building have been submitted to Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

The development, on part of the school site in Nethan Drive, Aveley, will feature three buildings, one for each of the school’s colleges, Aspen, Banyan and Sycamore.

The upper floors of each college building have been designed with large open-plan areas for project and practical working, smaller group rooms and a lecture theatre.

On the top floor of each college there will be an east facing terrace.

The three buildings will be linked by a central two storey gallery, which the design statement said will be the focus of the whole academy.

Ormiston’s vice-principal Huw Derrick said: “To say this is an exciting time for the school is an understatement.

“We are extremely proud to have secured funding for this development which is a deserved state-of-the-art facility for the community.

“We have worked tirelessly with the construction company to ensure fitting accommodation for an outstanding 21st century education and wait with baited breath for the outcome of the planning application.”

If the plans for the building are approved by the corporation, building work could start as soon as April. The school’s current home was built in 1957 and is no longer fit for purpose.
