Van theft spate in town

THIEVES stole four Mercedes vans parked in Grays worth a total of nearly £30,000.
Police are warning residents to be on the lookout after the four Mercedes Sprinter vans were stolen.
The spate of thefts began when a van worth £5,000 was stolen from a driveway in Blackshots Lane between 12.30am and 8.30am on August 22.
The second theft took place on August 25, when a van worth £10,000 was stolen from the roadside in Connaught Avenue, between 6.45pm and 10.45pm.
A van worth £3,500 was stolen from Prince Phillip Avenue between 7pm on August 25 and 7.15am on August 26.
Lastly, another van worth £10,000 was stolen from the roadside in Heathview Road, between 9pm on August 25 and 12.30am on August 26.
Pc Alistair Malone said: “We are asking residents to be vigilant against any suspicious activity around vehicles.
“We remind van owners to make sure their vehicles are left secure, with all tools removed overnight.
"If you see anything suspicious, we want to hear from you.”
